Lyttelton, portal to Canterbury’s historic past, a vibrant sustainable community creating a living future

Community Food Forest

Lyttelton-Food-Forest-Logo3A small community food forest is being established in Lyttelton. It is probably the first of its kind in the harbour which makes it all the more special.

We have developed the preliminary food forest design during the Forest Garden workshop with Robina McCurdy. The design has being enriched and adapted to meet the needs of the local community. Our first community working bee was amazing. About 20 people come to help and the small forest was planted out in less than a day.

There is still an opportunity to be involved, as the forest will require ongoing maintenance until it can support itself. We are also yet to put in herbs and ground cover plants so watch this space for more activities coming up.
