Timebank shows the way for vibrant Local Learning

Project Lyttelton is ‘doing’ ongoing education differently this year. We are starting out this March – see the advertisement for courses and dates for March, April, May – using the Time Bank as a way to provide what we want to learn in this community.

You could be thinking what skill or knowledge that you might like to share with others. Also you may want to ask for what you would like to learn.

In this system, tutors will be paid with time credits.

Students will pay time credits (Surplus time credits will go into the Community Chest.)

The success of this way of providing our ongoing educational needs will depend on the self-organising nature of this community.

At this stage it means all partaking of this learning system need to be Time Bank members. You can join here (link).

To make this way of providing ongoing education work we need for people to give feedback:

Ø What skills/knowledge are you willing to share with others? This can be for an hour, several weeks or a term.

Ø Are you willing to accept Time Bank credits for this work?

Ø What skills/knowledge would you like to gain?

Initially these classes will be held on Wednesday evenings at the Portal (54a Oxford Street, behind the swimming pool) between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.

Keep looking on the website for updates – some courses you need to book for (numbers may be limited or materials may need to be ordered etc), otherwise you can simply turn up.

Each evening in addition to paying time credits for what you are learning, there will be a $5 cover charge towards power, administration etc.

We plan to continue with the successful lecture series later this year under sponsorship.

Like all Project Lyttelton projects there is a team of people supporting and organising this project. If you have an interest in ongoing education you may like to be part of that team.
