Lyttelton, portal to Canterbury’s historic past, a vibrant sustainable community creating a living future

Growing Strong Families Locally

by Jacinda Gilligan

School holidays are just a couple of weeks away. If you are able to take some time off work, it's a wonderful opportunity to spend some decent stretches of time catching up with your children. Unplugging from the constant cycle of often expensive entertainment options can be tricky to manage but provides families a chance to slow down, be free of drop-offs and pick-ups for a bit and be nourished by simply being together.

Project Lyttelton's Education Team and the Lyttelton Timebank want to support families to find local, inexpensive ways of spending time together and have put together a few holiday activities during the first week of the holidays.

These activities, other than the Reserve walk, will be held at the Portal, the building next to the Community Garden and will cost a gold coin donation to cover materials. So that the tutors can receive time credits for the time they give, the participants need to be Timebank members. This is easy and free to join. As one of the aims of this project is to support families being together, these activities are not drop off activities but require at least an adult to participate in the activity as well.

Bookings are required and the Drama club, Puppets and Doll-making all have number limits.
